Senator Chuck Schumer held a news conference outside Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Monday and discussed the importance of stopping the Zika virus before it gets any worse.

Schumer said he supports a proposal that would provide $1.9 billion that also would pay for education and prevention programs, including mosquito control programs, as well as develop a better test for the virus.

“We don’t want it to be like Ebola where people had to hustle at the last minute. We want to be prepared in time,” Schumer said, from the Buffalo News.

Fever, rash and pink eye are some of the symptoms of the Zika virus, which has already effected two people in Western New York. Canada has just announced the first case of sexually transmitted Zika virus. Texas was the first case in the United States.
