Sabres Hire General Manager
For the second time this week, Terry Pegula and crew have hired a General Manager for one of their sports franchises. This time it is for the Sabres, and it looks like they got it right!
Former Sabre Jason Botterill has been picked from a field of candidates to become the 8th General Manager in Sabres team history. Botterill most recently served as Assistant General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who once again find themselves in the Eastern Conference Finals.
According to Sabres.com, Terry Pegula was quoted as saying, “We are very happy to welcome Jason Botterill to the Buffalo Sabres family. Jason’s hockey knowledge, experience drafting and developing players, and his approach to management stood out to us during our interview process. Jason has built a solid reputation as a leader that connects strongly with players and staff around him. We are confident he will have a positive impact within our organization and will help us get to our ultimate goal.”
Botterill played for the Sabres in his final 3 NHL seasons (2002-2004), and since has spent 11 years in NHL front offices, including the last 10 with the Pittsburgh Penquins. He has played a key role in both of the Penguin’s Stanley Cup winning seasons of 2009 and 2016.
