In the past month, the Sabres have been making national headlines for signings and trades including the acquisitions of highly regarded players Robyn Regehr and Christian Ehrhoff. Yesterday, Buffalo locked up one of their promising young defenseman to a four year, eleven million dollar contract that will keep Andrej Sekera a Sabre until the 2015-2016 season.

In this past season, Sekera posted a career high 26 assists and 29 points in 76 games with the Sabres. He also had a strong post-season before he was sidelined with an upper-body injury. This signing puts Buffalo over $2 million dollars over the salary cap, something they must correct before the season begins. With a potential 8 NHL defenseman on the roster, chances are a quality player will be sent to AHL Rochester for cap space. If we were into gambling, which we are, we'd guess that Shaonne Morrisonn will be the odd man out, if for nothing else than the ridiculous way he spells his name.
