Rush is preparing to release their first album in almost five years, and rumors are circulating that a new single will hit radio on April 19. RushisaBand.com reports that a shortened version of a song called ‘Headlong Flight’ will be available. Furthermore, it seems as if industry insiders got a peek at the new song on Wednesday.

According to the fan site, a five-and-a-half minute recording of the song will be released, while the full-length track is two minutes longer. The album will be called ‘Clockwork Angels’ and will reportedly be released on May 29. It’s the first the Canadian rock group has recorded on Roadrunner Records.

The band began recording ‘Clockwork Angels’ in 2009, but took a break to switch record labels before resuming. Blabbermouth reports that two songs that were previously released digitally (‘BU2B’ and ‘Caravan’) were re-recorded for this album. The project is also being turned into a sci-fi novel by author Kevin J. Anderson.

“Imagine if someone had written the novel of ‘The Wall,’ ‘Tommy,’ or ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ when those classic albums were released. For Rush fans, ‘Clockwork Angels’ is that project,” Anderson said.

In February, Geddy Lee said fans can expect long songs that are “a different kind of future and the whole aesthetic of steampunk, which is so cool.” He added at the time that recording of the music was finished, which is a good sign for the May 29 timetable. There are currently no tour dates on the official Rush website.
