Deep in the heart of their current North American ‘Clockwork Angels’ tour run, the dynamic trio known as Rush rolled into the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. to deliver not one but two sets during the evening that brought fans from far and wide to partake in one of Canadian’s best exports.

Although the band is still churning out new music almost forty years into their career, their newest work wouldn’t take center stage until the second half of the evening. Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart offered up a meaty first set that feasted on deep cuts from throughout their extensive discography, from ‘The Analog Kid’ and ‘Subdivisions’ from 1982’s ‘Signals’ album to ‘The Big Money’ and ‘Territories’ from 1985’s ‘Power Windows.’

Their stage, an elaborate yet humorous take on the raging steampunk phenomenon served as a visually compelling backdrop equipped with every quirk one could imagine, right down to a working popcorn machine, as if to say, sit back and enjoy the show.

Before the band returned for their second set of the evening, Rush showed off more of their playful spirit and acting prowess with a hilarious video starring the trio as prankster gnomes.

The second set methodically laid out the band’s latest disc complete with a string ensemble to back them up as they churned out track after track from ‘Clockwork Angels.’ With Rush of course, the solos are non-negotiable and each member had the opportunity to show off their chops throughout.

The ambitious two-set performance served as a reminder that even though Rush are widely remembered for their individual outstanding musicianship and plethora of radio ready hits and deep reaching discography, they continue to remain relevant in the rock world, and have finally, yes FINALLY, made it to the short list of the he Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s nominees!
