John Carpenter is just fine despite review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes attempting to kill him off via Twitter this morning. The Horror Master turns 70 years old today, and to celebrate his birthday Rotten Tomatoes sent out a very strange tweet.

In a now-deleted post (thank goodness for screenshots), the Rotten Tomatoes account tweeted a link to a piece about Carpenter’s five favorite movies, along with the copy, “John Carpenter would have been 70 years old today!”

He is 70 years old. He’s fine.

The tweet was up for hours before anyone realized what was wrong, but, boy, what a stressful way to start the day. (On the plus side, at least Carpenter had the perfect “They said I was dead and left the tweet up for hours?” expression in the tweet.) I admit I was struck by doubt for a few seconds before clicking on the tweet and seeing a bunch of “lol he’s still alive bro” replies. The man just completed a nationwide tour with his band! He just starred in a music video! He’s working on a new Halloween movie and a possible Syfy series!

So, Happy Birthday John Carpenter, and congratulations for surviving this cold-blooded social-media assassination attempt. We can’t wait to see what happens with that new Halloween.
