This week marks the 20th anniversary of the most incredible goaltending performance in modern hockey history. Ron Tugnutt,( yes that Ron Tugnutt) made 70 saves against the Boston Bruins on March 21, 1991.To put this in perspective, Dominik Hasek had 70 saves in a playoff game against the New Jersey Devils in 1994. That game was the longest in Sabres History and extended to four overtime periods. Tugnutt did it in 65 minutes of hockey (that's right, more than a shot a minute). Tugnutt will likely never be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, but at just 23 , and playing for the worst team in the league, the Quebec Nordiques you wouldn't have known it. Clearly outmatched by the 100 point Boston Bruins, Tugnutt found a way to get a tie, including an overtime save against Paul Coffey that you have to see to believe.
