Police have made an arrest in connection with a threat made against a local school

**UPDATE** According to a media press release from the Amherst Police. A 13 year old student has been arrested.

The Amherst Police are working with officials from Sweet Home Middle School after school officials were made aware of a possible threat against the school.

Here is the message that Sweet Home Superintendent Anthony Day sent home to parents of the school district.

This afternoon, Sweet Home Middle School administrators were alerted to a possible threat against the Middle School. Working collaboratively with law enforcement officials, a subject has been identified and that student is now being questioned by the Amherst Police.

We are confident that the Middle School community is safe but as a precautionary measure, Amherst police will have a presence on campus tomorrow to ensure the safety of all students and staff. All Sweet Home Schools will have heightened security procedures in place. When the investigation is complete, we will provide additional information at that time.

Thank you,

Tony Day, Superintendent of Schools

The Amherst police will have a presence at the middle school tomorrow while all schools in the district will have heightened security procedures in place.
