Third generation classic rockers Pearl Jam paid tribute to a few of classic rock giants at their show on July 5 in Berlin, Germany. Performing at the Berlin O2 Arena, the alt rock legends dished out a few surprises including a straight up rendition of the Pink Floyd ‘Wall’ classic ‘Mother.’ The crowd roared its approval as Eddie Vedder sang the first line. You can watch the video below.

The band did a mixture of old and new material including such PJ standards as ‘Even Flow,’ ‘Better Man,’ and ‘Yellow Ledbetter.’ Midway through their performance, they broke into ‘Eruption’ from the first Van Halen album, then for the second to the last song of the encore, the Who‘s ‘Baba O’ Riley’ made a not-so-surprising appearance. The band has performed this many times over the years. Singer Eddie Vedder also found time to join opening band, LA rock and roll legends X, for a rocking version of their song ’Devil Doll.’

Changing up their set list is nothing new for Pearl Jam. In fact at a recent show in Amsterdam, big time PJ fan Brian Farias was given the opportunity to make up the set list for that night’s show. According to Rolling Stone, he had been chosen by the band’s fan club to be flown to Amsterdam to attend a couple of shows and meet the band. Once there, Vedder told him to make up the set list for the band.

You gotta give it to Pearl Jam, whether paying homage to their own fans, or to the bands that have inspired them, they always let their fan flag fly, and for that, we salute ‘em!
