Not even Jack Eichel's first career hat trick was enough to provide the Sabres and Sabres fans with a victory.  It was an entertaining game on a snowy night in downtown Buffalo, but the Sabres wound up losing another overtime game, this time to the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4.

The Sabres had fallen behind 4-2 in the third period, but Eichel scored a pair of goals just 10 seconds apart to tie the game and send the game to overtime.  Then in overtime Evander Kane had a clear cut breakaway with a chance to win it, but he got off a weak shot only to have the Hurricanes score a short time later.

Jake McCabe scored the other Buffalo goal, his second of the season.  He's the only Sabres defenseman to find the net this season.

Goaltending, bad bounces, lack of confidence around the net, bad luck; whatever excuse you want to make the Sabres have a real tough time winning games that go past regulation.  They've won just once in eight tries this season.

In 12 home games this season, the Sabres have won just four times.  They certainly don't provide a lot of reason to keep coming back.
