There is a new law that is looming for Erie County residents to be aware of.

Erie County lawmakers met this week to move forward on new laws for 2019. One of those affects people who smoke with kids in the car.

According to Metro Source News:

The legislation makes it illegal for people to smoke tobacco products if they're in a vehicle with someone 18 or younger.  Lighting up is also banned near bus shelters and any store with a pharmacy can't sell tobacco products.

The law goes into effect after it's filed with the Secretary of State of New York. If you are caught you face fines.

I'm not saying it was right. But I recall when we were kids both parents would be smoking in the car. Looking back, and knowing what I know now, I realize that it wasn't the healthiest decision. The world certainly has changed.
