Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ Will Be Covered 144 Times During Upcoming Toronto Festival
It’s not too late to rename it Nirvanathon.
Over the course of 12 hours, local performers from Canada will take a crack at playing the Nirvana anthem ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ 144 consecutive times as part of the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche art festival in Toronto on Oct. 1.
The real name for this portion of Nuit Blanche is ‘A Brief History of Rebellion,’ which is being presented by the Toronto media company and art collective Juicebox. Buck 65 and Tokyo Police Club are among the bands signed up to play ‘Teen Spirit,’ but walk-ons of all kinds are welcome, too. A description on the Nuit Blanche site reads, “each performance will be somewhat unique, but you don’t have to be a local celebrity (or even a musician) to participate.”
