Pete Townshend's new classical version of "Love Reign O'er Me" reworks the Who's 1973 classic features the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, but no Roger Daltrey. The above video comes ahead of June's Classic Quadrophenia, a symphonic update of the Who's famous rock opera.

The featured vocalist on the track is Alfie Boe, an English tenor singer who shared a Tony Award for the 2003 revival of La Boheme. Classic Quadrophenia, which is orchestrated by Rachel Fuller, will be released on June 9. A performance by Townshend and Boe with the Royal Philharmonic will follow on July 5 at the Royal Albert Hall.

Townshend's renewed interest in Quadrophenia includes an expanded 2011 reissue of the original album a massive tour, Quadrophenia and More, with Daltrey and the Who's regular touring band from 2012-13. That followed a 1996–97 tour, featuring the late John Entwistle and the original band's shows in support of the album in 1973-74. The Who also released Quadrophenia Live in London last year.

The new "Love Reign O'er Me" video includes scenes shot at Brighton Beach that feature scenes from the 1979 film adaptation of Quadrophenia. Watch closely at the end of the video for a cameo by Phil Daniels, who starred in the movie.

The Royal Philharmonic is accompanied on "Love Reign O'er Me" by the London Oriana Choir, which is conducted by Robert Zeigler. Boe was also a featured performer at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert in 2012, where he combined opera with Elvis Presley's "It's Now or Never."
