Laura Daniels Learns Infant CPR — Could You Have Saved That Texas Baby’s Life? [VIDEOS]

Western New York is still under a flood risk after yesterday’s severe weather that dumped over an inch of rain in a short period of time.  Communities along Lake Ontario and low-lying creeks and streams are still in danger.

Thankfully, these storms didn’t result in any fatalities, but one community in Eastern Texas wasn’t as lucky.  After tornadoes ripped through the area on Saturday, flood waters started to rage, and several people lost their lives.

This video out of Canton, Texas shows several good Samaritans coming to the rescue of an over-turned truck, while a 2 year old and an infant were stuck inside.  After 6 terrifying minutes, the infant was removed and wasn’t breathing.  They performed CPR, and the baby came back.

(Caution, this video may be tough to watch for some.)

As I watched this video, my heart broke. Because while I learned CPR basics for ADULTS in high school, I don’t think I would have been able to help the infant.

So I reached out to Jay Bonafede, Chief Communications Officer for the Western New York chapter of the American Red Cross, to share some pointers on the differences with CPR on babies.

By the way, the family of the children in Texas just met the people who helped save their babies’ lives.  See that touching footage here.

Everyone should know CPR, whether you’ve got kids or not.  You never know when you might need it.  As Jay said in the video, 1 out of 4 people will come across a situation where CPR is needed.
