Kiss May Write New Music for Their Football Team

Chris Epting, Ultimate Classic Rock

On Monday, March 10, outside the Honda Center arena in Anaheim, CA, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss helped unveil the uniforms and cheerleaders for their latest concept/investment, the LA Kiss of the Arena Football League.

Stanley also told us the group may write new music for use during the team’s home games. “We are planning to come up with something that will be the battle cry; something that will represent not only the team, but will represent the fans. We want the fans to have a song, or a melody or a battle cry that they can participate in. Because everybody in those seats is on the team. We can’t win without those people. The team is much bigger than just those that are on the field. There’s gonna be 15,000 members in there that are members of this team.”

The team will be playing home games at the Honda Center, and the two rock and roll legends, along with other team owners, coaches and players were on hand to help introduce the LA Kiss to the media.

Leave it to Kiss to take the league by storm like this, backing a team that will have the wildest uniforms, hottest cheerleaders and most rock and roll in-game experience that pro sports has perhaps ever seen.

The flame-heavy uniform/helmet designs came straight from Stanley himself, who said that the team wants to be come “part of the neighborhood, working with local charities, CHOC Hospital and other organizations that can all benefit from the excitement and energy we know this team will deliver. In coming up with these designs I wanted the community to have something to be proud of.”

Team coach Bob McMillen, 2013′s AFL Coach of the Year, stared at the mass of assembled cameras and laughed that he’d “Never seen a media day like this.” (Cameras were also on hand shooting footage for an upcoming AMC reality TV show all about the team.)

As Simmons stressed, this will football “by the fans, for the fans and of the fans, just like the music is in Kiss. This will be the ultimate fan experience. Our players will stay long after the games to sign autographs, our season tickets start at just $99, and all of our home games will be played in Saturdays. This will be easy for people, affordable, and the wildest sports show they will ever see. Oh, and we’re going to win, too.”

Simmons also promised that all season ticket holders will receive a special Kiss concert at the arena — complete with “all the bells and whistles” — and that management had put together a hyper-competitive team including many former NFL players that were ready to live up to the high-performance Kiss standards.

Ultimate Classic Rock had a chance to ask Stanley about Kiss’ famed 1976 sold-out show at Anaheim Stadium, just across the street from the Honda Center. “Playing right over there was a milestone for us,” he shared. “We were four guys from New York City who had nothing — we didn’t have a pot to piss in. But we had a dream. And when you use a dream as a template for what you want, then your dream becomes a map. And our map led us there before any other stadium. And so we feel a connection to this area. This is hallowed ground for us. In a sense, there are different places in the country that we mark, but this one was a turning point for us. We played a stadium and we were embraced in a way that I think our team is going to be embraced by this neighborhood today.”
