Yes, Kazakhstan is a real country. And, no, it’s not really the goofy backwater that it is portrayed in the movie ‘Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.’ Or is it?

The 6th Kostanay Regional Festival of Skiing in Kazakhstan is going on this week in the central Asian nation. During the event’s opening ceremony, there was a glitch during the singing of the national anthem that probably had organizers wondering whether Sacha Baron Cohen had arrived in the country he’s had so much fun lampooning.

“Eyes on the flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan is beginning,” the loudspeaker announced. But instead of ‘Menin Kazakhstan,’ the notorious Ricky Martin track ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ began blasting through the speakers.

The glitch was quickly remedied, but the damage was done.

While it would now be tempting for Cohen to use ‘Livin la Vida Loca’ as Kazakhstan’s national anthem in any potential ‘Borat’ sequels, if you remember he had already made up a fake national song for Kazakhstan in the original movie. You can listen to that ridiculousness below.
