Ryan Dunn’s death is really a story about a life ended too soon — and Dunn’s longtime friend and ‘Jackass’ partner, Johnny Knoxville, has issued a poignant reminder in a recent blog post.

Saying he was trying to work out emotions he’d been unable to express at Dunn’s memorial service, Knoxville wrote an impassioned letter to his departed friend, saying Dunn “had a pure, open heart,” and made him “feel 34 percent funnier” when he was around.

Knoxville also talked about how he relied on Dunn for comfort in trying times, admitting, “That’s why all this is even harder because right now I really need to talk to him but I can’t.”

Knoxville’s letter went on to deal with various difficulties Dunn’s death has created — including the pain of telling Knoxville’s young daughter about his passing — and concludes with a simple “I don’t know what else to say right now. I love you, Ryan…I want you to know I love you so very much.”
