Jason White, the lead guitarist for Green Day, has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. His prognosis, according to the band, is good and is expected to make a complete recovery.

Yesterday (Dec. 5), the band issued the following statement on its website. "We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread. Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery."

Green Day also asked its fans to "Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time."

White served as a guitarist on Green Day tours beginning in 1999. In 2012, he was made a full member of the band, which had been a trio since their earliest days in the late '80s.

This is the second time this year cancer has strck the Green Day family. Back in May, bassist Mike Dirnt's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.
