Taste of Lockport is looking for hungry record breakers! And by hungry we mean... well, hungry we guess.

The 15th Annual Taste of Lockport is taking place this weekend on Sunday, July 5from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM in Ida Fritz park and along the closed to traffic Main Street up to Locust Street.

The Taste’s usual August date was changed to July 5th to be the culminating event to the City of Lockport’s Sesquicentennial celebrations that began on June 27th.  In honor of the incorporation of the City of Lockport on April 11, 1865, the Taste of Lockport added an attempt at the title of Most people singing over a live radio broadcast from Guinness World Records.  The attempt will take place at Cottage Street over the Erie Canal at 4:11 PM.

Attendees will be full on all of the local and surrounding area foods available starting at 11:00 AM and be hungry for a record breaking, historical win.  On June 29th the title previously held in Hong Kong was taken by Barclaycard Present British Summertime (UK), in Hyde Park, London with 6,904 singers.  The Lockport Business Association who hosts the Taste of Lockport annually is ready to bring that title to the USA in honor of Independence Day and the Lockport 150th anniversary.

In honor of Lockport’s water roots from the Erie Canal, “Low Bridge” will be sung by all of the participating hungry record breakers led by the band, Blood Money.  The interpretation from the endeared song about the Erie Canal is from the wide variety of artists who have covered it since it was penned by Thomas S. Allen in 1905, including school teachers to legendary singers like the Kingston Trio, Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen.  The performance will be broadcast by 92.9 JackFM, the station that plays what they want.  Registration for group leaders will be going on from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Check in for teams and their members will begin at 2:30 PM.  Plenty of time for all to enjoy the festivities of the day including, entertainment on two stages with sound by Sal Licata’s Sound Factor, a Kid Zone for the kiddies by WNY Entertainment Pros, beer tent served up by Attitudes Grille and The Sand Trap Grille and food, wine tasting and fresh from the farm delights from Lockport and their neighbors.

Awards will be given for over 12 different categories of food and wine and includes a People’s Choice award for best overall.  A basket raffle and Split Club drawing will be offered by the Lockport Business Association in support of their work in the community through business grants and student scholarships.  Farms like Hens Honey Bee Farm, a USDA Organic Honey producer, wineries from the region and restaurants and food trucks will be serving up some of their best for entries into the competitions.

Jennifer Serrano of Jenny Marketing Group, the event’s organizers says, “The Taste of Lockport 2015 is not just a food festival this celebratory year.  It is a history making, record breaking showcase of the area.”  Local organizations have been invited to participate and children in music classes in Lockport were practicing from their lyric sheets before the school year ended.  Restaurants, wineries and farms were all invited this year for a true sampling of the area.  Sponsors will be on hand who come from all over WNY to support the Taste of Lockport.

Come check off being a record breaker on your bucket list on Sunday, July 5th, where the Adjudicator, Michael Empric, from Guinness World Records will be on hand to announce the results after they are confirmed by independent auditors, Joseph M. Klimek and David J. Spara, from Toski & Company.  The Taste of Lockport drone sponsored by Paratroopers Army Navy from 92.9 JackFM and all of the hungry, record breaking team leaders will serve as evidence of the Taste of Lockport title of Most people singing over a live radio broadcast from Guinness World Records.
