Starting next week, you can can take up to 8 weeks of paid family leave and get 50 percent of your average weekly wage. It will be phased in over a four year period in New York state and eventually that will  grow to 12 weeks leave and receive 67 percent of average weekly wage starting in 2021.

Starting January 1, 2018, the New York State Paid Family Leave Program will provide New Yorkers job-protected, paid leave to bond with a new child, care for a loved one with a serious health condition or to help relieve family pressures when someone is called to active military service", according to the New York State website.
