An estimated 112 people have been murdered tonight (Nov. 13) in a terrorist attack at the Bataclan concert venue in Paris, France, where the Eagles of Death Metal were scheduled to perform this evening.

(11/14 update: According to CNN, there are differing reports of the death toll from the venue, with the French interior ministry citing "at least 112" but the Paris prosecutor saying "about 80.")

Police stormed the venue after reports that an unknown number of people were being held captive in the venue, with CNN reporting that around 100 hostages, some wounded, have been brought out of the building.

This tragedy was part of a coordinated series of terrorist attacks in the French capital. Although a Facebook post from the opening band Red Lemons (via Brooklyn Vegan) stated that Eagles of Death Metal were outside of the venue at the time of the attack, and are safe, the band reported on their Facebook page that they are "still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew." Queens of the Stone Age star Josh Homme, who together with frontman Jesse Hughes forms the studio version of Eagles of Death Metal, was not touring with the band at this time.

Escaped hostages from the Bataclan told CNN that the attackers "calmly executed hostages, reloaded, executed again in silence."

CNN reported that there were six-to-eight attackers in the Bataclan looking for concertgoers who were in hiding. They also say that there was a shootout in the street, with police "firing at a rooftop position near the venue." The BBC's live coverage quotes the friend of a French journalist who escaped the theater as saying that they gunmen mentioned Syria during the attack.

Also, the BBC says that, in addition to the Bataclan, someone opened fire in a restaurant and three explosions were heard in a bar close to the Stade de France, where France's national soccer team was playing Germany in an exhibition match. French President Francois Hollande was in attendance but evacuated for his safety.

We will have more on this story as it unfolds.
