What if your father offered $65 million to any man willing to marry you?

What if you were already married?

Cecil Chao, Hong Kong’s billionaire Hugh Heffner clone, is offering $65 million as a dowry to any man willing to marry his lesbian daughter, Gigi.

Chao has never married, but he claims he’s slept with over 10,000 women, and he’s fathered three children with three women. However, the news that his daughter had married her long-time girlfriend, Sean Eav, has Chao changing his mind.

Hong Kong currently does not legally recognize same-sex marriage, and Gigi and Eav married earlier this year in Paris. Chao wants a man to “woo” his daughter away from her wife and into the arms of a husband.

“I don't mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted,” Chao told the South China Morning Post and described Gigi’s current marriage as “false.”

But Gigi, who has been receiving thousands and thousands of proposals since her father posted the offer, is more amused than upset.

She told The Daily Telegraph, “At first I was entertained by it, and then that entertainment turned into the realisation and conviction that I am a really lucky girl to have such a loving daddy. It's really sweet of him to do something like this as an expression of his fatherly love.”

Um, what?

First off, didn’t dowries end centuries ago? When I first heard this story on Good Morning, America, I didn’t even process that she was a lesbian. I was more concerned that she was being auctioned off for marriage.

And how is she OK with this? If my dad tried to marry me off to a man because he didn’t approve of whom I loved, I think I’d be pretty pissed.

What do you think?
