A talented musician by the name of Daniel Mustard, who used to be homeless and forced to live on the streets, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new album.

Mustard rose to internet fame when he appeared on the Opie and Anthony radio show in 2009 covering Radiohead‘s ‘Creep.’ The video was a hit on YouTube, garnering almost eight million views. Mustard gives a passionate take on the song with just his acoustic guitar and raspy voice. Watch the clip below if you missed out on it the first time.

Fast forward to 2012, and it seems like things are going well for Mr. Mustard. As Gothamist points out, he launched the Kickstarter campaign to help secure enough money to finish his EP, ‘Fragments of Bone.’ Mustard is no longer homeless and is living sober to focus on his music. So far the Kickstarter project has raised almost $3,000 towards his $15,000 goal.

“I don’t busk on the street anymore,” Mustard tells Gothamist. “When I did, I played in Washington Square Park, and earned a bit of a rep there. Despite that being a very low point (I was living in the park at the time), I would say that’s still my favorite ‘venue.’ I’ve since played shows at Parkside Lounge, Zirzamin Lounge and a few spots throughout Brooklyn. I’ve actually got my Kickstarter release show coming up this August 4th at Zirzamin at 7PM.”
