Your eyes aren't deceiving you, you are now seeing fireworks in stores in Erie County. No, it's not the big fireworks that a county would set off but "sparkling devices" like the ones you would use in your driveway or a backyard. Sparklers, whippersnappers, snakes and other things you find in a fireworks package at a Target, Walmart, or even corner store will now be available in Erie County.

What used to be illegal in the county is now legal due to a recent change in the law. "Sparkling Devices" are now allowed to be sold from certain vendors in Erie County.

According to WKBW,

"In the past, New York banned the sale of Sparkling Devices, and counties would have to opt in, in order to sell the items.  This year, the law changed and counties now have to opt out, meaning the devices are legal unless action is specifically taken to ban them."

While heavy caution should be used when handling any sort of firework, this is good news for residents ahead of 4th if July.

  • BJ's
  • Sam's Club
  • Target
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
