U.S. News analyzed the 125 most populous metro areas to find the best places to live. To make the top of the list, a place had to have good value, be a desirable place to live, have a strong job market and a high quality of life.

It's no surprise that New York doesn't ran very well on the list. As a matter of fact, the first place in New York that you will find on the list is Albany at #39. High taxes are probably the biggest factor in why this state struggles to make lists such as this.

Syracuse is also ahead of Buffalo at #48. Rochester and Buffalo are back to back on the list at #'s 51 and 52 respectively.

The Great Depression sparked the slow decline of Buffalo's lofty economic status, but the region is now once again on the rise.
