A very special Tim Hortons opened its doors this morning. The HarborCenter's bakeshop and cafe pays tribute to Sabres legend Tim Horton.

The restaurant features a specially designed logo that ties together the Buffalo Sabres and the original signage for the chain, which is still used at several stores in both the United States and Canada.

The restaurant features displays that tell the story of Buffalo’s Memorial Auditorium, the region’s hockey base 1940 to 1996.

The historic theme even carries to the cups. Patrons can get their Tim Hortons fix in Sabres-themed cups.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to celebrate local history through one of Western New York’s favorite food brands,” HarborCenter President John Koelmel previously said in a news release.

“We are very excited to partner with Tim Hortons to create another great reason to visit HARBORCENTER and Canalside. This restaurant will be a must-see for all coffee lovers, hockey fans and local history enthusiasts.”

Tim Hortons is also the official coffee of The Rinks at HarborCenter.

Festivities for the grand opening of the HarborCenter will continue with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Thursday for the Tim Hortons Cafe and Bakeshop.

The Tim Horton statue on the corner of Washington and Scott streets will be unveiled at that time.
