Frito-Lay is recalling certain chips because of salmonella concerns. They announced and voluntary recall recall of select Jalapeño Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips due to the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning.

According to the FDA,

"Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis."

There have been no incidents of Salmonella being found and no illnesses have been reported but are opting to err on the side of caution and issue the recall. The products being recalled were sold in retail stores, foodservice, vending and other outlets throughout the U.S.
