Back in June it was announced that the tribute concert held in 1992 in memory of Freddie Mercury would soon be released on DVD and Blu-ray in a remastered and expanded package. Now it has been revealed that ‘The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert: The Definitive Edition’ will be available on Sept. 3, two days before what would have been the Queen frontman's 67th birthday.

The three-DVD/Blu-ray package brings together the concert's main set -- featuring the surviving members of Queen with Robert Plant, Elton JohnDavid Bowie and others filling in for the late Mercury -- and previously unavailable footage of the opening acts, including performances by Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Def Leppard. A third disc contains a 60-minute documentary, rehearsal footage and photo galleries.

Blabbermouth reports that the Blu-ray will be an SD Blu-ray with upscaled standard definition original material with uncompressed stereo and DTS-HD surround sound. You can watch the trailer above.

Proceed from the sale of the video will go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which distributes funds to AIDS-related charities worldwide. The Mercury Phoenix Trust was launched in 1992 with the money raised by the original tribute concert, which took place on April 20, 1992.
