Just yesterday we learned that FOX's Batman prequel 'Gotham' TV series would in fact include a number of characters from the Dark Knight mythology, among them Bruce Wayne and his most iconic foes, but has Commissioner Gordon's leading role already been cast? 'Sons of Anarchy' and 'Vikings' star Donal Logue has reportedly been offered the part!

The latest report comes to us through Latino Review, well-documented for their early scoops, though the news only claims that Logue has been offered the part, not if the former 'Terriers' star will actually accept the role. Credit Logue though we must for his expansive talents and often-unusual roles, we had thought that FOX's incarnation of Batman's eventual ally would cast a bit younger, as 'Gotham' would see James Gordon still a detective in a Gotham City teetering on the edge.

UPDATE: Logue took to Twitter early this morning to refute the news that he's been cast in FOX's 'Gotham' series:

Its pilot supposedly featuring Gordon’s investigation of the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne, the new Bat-drama will explore “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous,” with its pilot to be written and executive produced by ‘The Mentalist”s Bruno Heller, along with Warner Bros. Television, and directed by ‘Judge Dredd’ helmer Danny Cannon. It has also been confirmed that ‘Gotham’ will not have any direct ties to Ben Affleck‘s take on the Dark Knight for ‘Batman vs. Superman.’

While Gordon is believed to be the central role of 'Gotham,' FOX president Kevin Reilly recently told reporters that the series would feature origin stories for the Penguin, Riddler, Joker, Catwoman and a young Bruce Wayne, eventually donning the Batman costume in the final installment of the proposed series.

We'll keep our ear to the ground for further confirmations of Logue's 'Gotham' casting, but what say you? Could you see the former 'Terriers' star as a young James Gordon? Who would you like to see fill the roles around FOX's 'Gotham'?
