If you’re sensing a disturbance in the force, you may be picking up on Roseville, California. That’s where Obiwan Kenobi was arrested for fleeing (possibly to Tatooine) the scene of a five-car pileup.

Born Benjamin Cale Feit, the man legally changed his name to Obiwan Kenobi in 1999 for a radio contest.  We assume he dropped the hyphen to differentiate himself, per SAG standards, from the Jedi master Obi-Wan. He currently goes by Ben, anyway.

Kenobi was released from custody after being arrested for allegedly causing a March 19 chain-reaction car accident.  The 37-year-old man was released on bail and placed “on electronic monitoring,” according to a Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. His record also included an outstanding warrant for petty theft. There was no mention of Jedi mind trickery or maiming by lightsaber.

Couldn’t he just use ‘The Force’ to get out of jail? Couldn’t he just use ‘The Force’ to make us stop with these terrible Star Wars references and puns? What haven’t we used yet? Oh, right, Yoda voice. “Driver bad this one.” How’s that?

One of my first gigs in radio had me playing Dancin’ Oldies of the 60′s and 70′s, so I was sad when I heard that Donna Summer had died of cancer. I didn’t even know she had been diagnosed. I remember cranking the musical orgasm part of “Love to Love you baby,” in the DJ booth and chuckling as some of the stuffier suits in the building walked by. The last song I played on that station was Summer’s “Last Dance”.

“Last Dance” was also likely the last song you heard at many weddings, while “She Works Hard for the Money and “Hot Stuff” were staples for all you jive turkeys who used to frequent club 747 near the airport.

Weird though, how the thing most engrained in my head about Donna Summer comes from Cheri Oteri’s recurring bit on Saturday Night Live. Guess I’m just not a disco person. But Donna Summer always put a smile on my fast.

Kiss will celebrate their new album with a new magazine. The rock band announced on their official website that ‘Kiss: Monster — The Official Album and Tour Magazine’ will be out this June. The 72-page magazine is “made by Kiss fans for Kiss fans.”

Included in the pages are dozens of rare photographs, many never before published. Also fans will find interviews with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, plus a look at all the different styles of Kiss costumes through the years, including their current look.

Of course there will be plenty of information about the new album, but editor Chris Alexander promises a critical look at the full Kiss discography as well. More niche articles like an in-depth retrospective of the band’s television movie ‘Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park’ will also be included.

The magazine is being produced by Fangoria. Alexander is the editor-in-chief at Fangoria, and a card-carrying member of the Kiss Army. Previously Simmons hinted that the album will be out in July — it’s not entirely clear if by releasing news of this magazine the band is also revealing an updated released date for the ‘Monster’ album. Of course this publication is in addition to the “100-pound book” that Simmons said the band is also working on for fans.

A biopic about Mick Jagger and Keith Richards called ‘Exile on Main St.’ is in the works, with the casting stage reportedly underway. Rumor has it that Harry Styles, one of the members of British boy band One Direction, is in the running to play the Rolling Stones‘ frontman in the project, which is being funded by Virgin’s Richard Branson.

Why Harry Styles? Well, for one thing, there is some physical similarity between the teen and this weekend’s ‘SNL’ host. A source said, “Harry on stage can pass as a dead ringer for Jagger. If he can transform this image into a movie role, then he’s going to be a serious candidate to get the part. The signs so far are good.”

Styles also has some serious time commitments in terms of band touring, though, which could prohibit him from taking the role. Word is that the powers-that-be might even delay the project if need be in order to accommodate Styles’ schedule. That’s pretty impressive and indicates just how badly the producers want him for the role.

One Direction are the hottest thing in pop music, so this casting isn’t a shock. It could actually be a good thing to boost the film and get tons of Styles’ younger fans into the multiplex to get their classic rock education!

It’s every young musician’s dream to have a gold or platinum album hanging on their walls. For most people, it requires years of hard work and dedication, but for one lucky collector, it only takes $1,300. That’s the going rate for an RIAA-certified triple platinum award that recently sold on eBay.

The downside to buying the award, of course, is that it’s not presented to you for having put your blood, sweat and tears on to the record. However, when it’s for an album as perfect as the Rolling Stones’ ‘Sticky Fingers,’ the coolness factor is amplified considerably.

Recorded in 1971, ‘Sticky Fingers’ is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, Rolling Stones album ever. It features such classics as ‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘Wild Horses’ and ‘Dead Flowers.’ Even the deeper cuts, like ‘Sway,’ ‘I Got the Blues’ and the stunning closer, ‘Moonlight Mile,’ would be career highlights for most bands.

‘Sticky Fingers’ was was their first record released on their own label, the first one to feature Mick Taylor, Brian Jones’ replacement, throughout the album and had the debut of the band’s soon-to-be iconic “tongue and lips” logo.

It is also famous (or infamous) for its cover, which featured a photograph of a male crotch and a working zipper on his jeans. The cover was designed by Andy Warhol.

This triple-platinum award is authenticated by the RIAA through a hologram on the plaque.

Criterion

The film inspired by the Who‘s 1973 album ‘Quadrophenia’ is going to be re-released in the United States this summer. The new, high-def restoration will be available August 28 on DVD and Blu-Ray, and includes new interviews, commentary and behind-the-scenes footage.

The story follows “Jimmy,’ a teenager “dissatisfied with family, work, and love, who identifies with the fashionable, pill-popping, scooter-driving mods, a group whose opposition to the motorcycle-riding rockers leads to a climactic riot in Brighton (courtesy of Criterion.com).”

It’s a story of youthful rebellion staged around the band’s classic soundtrack. Songs like ’5:15,’ ‘The Real Me,’ ‘Dr. Jimmy’ and ‘Love, Reign o’er Me’ are just a few of the well-known cuts from the concept album that spawned the movie.

According to the band’s official website, the new release will include audio commentary from director Franc Roddam and director of photography Brian Tufano. Interviews with the Who’s co-manager and the sound engineer will also be available, in addition to on-set archival footage and a booklet featuring an essay by Nick James. Liner notes from Pete Townshend will also be available.

In November, the Who released a deluxe edition of the album. There has been talk of a 2012 tour based on the album, and of a sequel to the movie following Jimmy’s life after his Mod days.

Nina Dobrev of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ really gets our blood running. There is nothing hotter than a vampire chick. Especially when they really know how to suck…blood. You thought we were going to say something else didn’t you. You freak.

Dobrev first appeared on the TV series ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’ and a bunch of Lifetime movies before scoring her dual roles on ‘The Vampires Diaries.’ She is a hot old vampire and also a hot young vampire. We’ll take either.

Dobrev recently made an appearance on Conan. The topic turned to yoga (when doesn’t it!) and it prompted Dobrev to do one of the hottest yoga routines in, well, ever.

We are sweating and we weren’t even working out.

In 2011, she was cast as Candace in the film adaptation of ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’, with  Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Paul Rudd. Mmm…Dobrev and Emma Watson. Here is hoping for a ‘Black Swan’ type bonding experience on the screen between the vamp and the sorceress.

Police say that they have finally caught the person responsible for more than 100 robberies that have taken place over the last two years in northern Nashville, Tennessee.

What’s shocking is that the culprit is a 14-year-old boy who apparently used a go-kart as his getaway vehicle.

According to one report, the teen, whose name is being withheld due to his being a minor, allegedly kicked in doors and stole video games, flat screen televisions, and just about anything else he could get his hands on. Then he would speed away through back alleys to the next house in his go-kart.

Metro Police Lt. Horace Temple said, “He’s tested the waters and tested our resources, definitely. He was an innovative individual.”

In a way, officers say they feel bad for the teen, stating that he had lost both of his parents and needed someone to look up to. “The child didn’t have a mentor or any kind of guidance in his life, and it kind of led to the life of crime on the streets,” Temple said.

Police say that he has admitted to several break-ins.

The teen is now facing time in state custody.

Peter Cutler, spokesman for the state’s prison and parole system, told The Buffalo News that “it’s unusual for a transfer to take place after such a lengthy stay in one facility.” But honestly, what could he possibly be doing that’s worse than the crime that put him behind bars?

Former maintenance man from Hawaii, Chapman traveled to New York City with a plan to kill former Beatle, John Lennon. Dec. 8, 1980 Chapman shot at Lennon five times, outside the Manhattan apartment where Lennon lived. In 1981, Chapman spent time at the Sing Sing facility before his stay in Attica.

Chapman’s been at the Attica facility for 31 years, after receiving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison. The Parole Board has rejected all of Chapman’s parole attempts. August marks his next eligible time for parole and Yoko Ono, Lennon’s widow, has been expected to protest in August. She believes he’s still a threat. I agree.

In September 2009 a handful of famous British rock musicians, including Robert Plant, performed a concert at London’s O2 Arena as a benefit for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation. A DVD of highlights of the show, which was called “Rockwell,” will be released on June 19 by MVD.

Plant performs three songs on this DVD, two of which, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and ‘Black Dog,’ are from his days fronting Led Zeppelin. The third, ‘Fixin’ to Die’ is a cover of a blues song by Bukka White that Plant released on his 2002 album, ‘Dreamland.’ Bob Dylan also released a version of the song on his 1962 debut.

The DVD also features Tom Jones (‘It’s Not Unusual,’ ‘Sex Bomb’ and ‘It’s Your Thing’), Joss Stone and David Grey. For the finale, all the acts gather on stage to sing the Beatles‘ ‘Let it Be.’

Nordorff-Robbins uses music therapy as a form of treatment for such conditions as autism, dementia, stroke, brain injury and depression. According to their website, they “deliver over 50,000 music therapy sessions per year in care homes, day centres, hospitals, schools and our own centres. We are also developing a range of other music and health projects aimed at bringing music to more and more people in local communities.”

You may have seen the ads for Skechers’ Shape-ups shoes featuring spokesmodels like Kim Kardashian and Brooke Burke.

But the FTC says the claims made within those ads and others like them were false, and it’s now ordered the shoe manufacturer to cough up a $40 million fine.

Skechers said the $100 sneakers’ design promoted weight loss and toned muscles, but the FTC said such assertions were deceptive and misleading to consumers. The action brought by the agency also included Skechers’ Resistance Runner, Toners, and Tone-ups shoes.

People who bought the shoes will be eligible for refunds, though how much they’ll get back is unclear. The FTC did say that most of the $40 million settlement will be returned to consumers.

It’s not the first time the FTC has cracked down on the makers of athletic shoes. Last year Reebok faced similar trouble over its EasyTone walking shoes and RunTone running shoes, and eventually paid out $25 million in customer refunds.

“The FTC’s message, for Skechers and other national advertisers, is to shape up your substantiation or tone down your claims,” said David Vladeck, director of the agency’s consumer protection bureau, adding that for millions of buyers, “the only thing that got a workout was their wallet.”

Many of us do our banking via ATM or other electronic means, but how would you feel if actual in-person tellers didn’t exist? A few banks are testing out new systems with the possible goal of making that idea a reality.

In an effort to reduce waiting time for customers and free up employees to sell profitable products like loans and mortgages, some banks are installing touch screens and self-serve kiosks that would allow people to conduct standard banking business as well as cash checks, buy money orders and get cash in unusual denominations — tasks typically reserved exclusively for tellers.

Bank of America is even trying out video teller machines with screens that would give customers access to employees located in a centralized call center who can remotely authorize transactions, review check images and dole out cash. North Carolina’s Coastal Federal Credit Union, which has already switched to such a system, has seen its costs drop by 40 percent.

Willard Ross, chief retail officer for the credit union, said product sales have nearly doubled in the branches and added, “Branch managers don’t have to worry about manning the teller operations anymore, so they can be totally focused on the members who walk in.”

Dating is tough, and interpersonal communication can be even tougher. But the electronic age has brought with a whole new layer of angst — it seems nothing is more perplexing to a man than talking to a woman via text message.

A recent survey conducted by TSB Magazine, an online dating advice and men’s interest site, asked participants to review some of the most traditionally frustrating or confusing aspects of dating, approaching women, and romance, and then choose which issue was paramount.

Fully a third of men said confusion about when to send a text to a woman and what it should say was the most frustrating aspect of a budding romance, while others cited more traditional concerns like approaching women, having an in-person conversation and the awkwardness of an end-of-date kiss.

Of course, not everyone even had the chance to get that far — the survey also included the choices “having women see you are a friend, not a love interest” and “hitting it off with a woman only to have her shift her interest to someone else,” which garnered 10 percent and 6 percent of the votes, respectively.

NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ is pulling out at all the stops for the finale of its 37th season. First it was announced that Mick Jagger would be both the host and musical guest. Then they said that Jagger would be backed by Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire. Now they’ve added another rock legend to the proceedings, guitarist Jeff Beck.

Jagger and Beck have known each other since the beginning of their careers, having come up through the London blues scene that centered around the Ealing Club, and Beck even auditioned to join the group after Mick Taylor left in 1975. However, they have not often recorded together. Beck played on Jagger’s first two solo albums, 1985′s ‘She’s the Boss’ and 1987′s ‘Primitive Cool.’ The two most recently performed together in February in front of President Obama for ‘In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues.’

Many people are hoping that Jagger will drop some big news about an upcoming Rolling Stones album and/or tour during his appearance on ‘SNL.’ Earlier today it was learned that Stones guitarist Ron Wood is keeping October and November free. Let’s not forget that Wood got his start as the bass player in the Jeff Beck Group in 1968. We’ve been wrong before, but we think this is now too much of a coincidence for it to not be happening.

There is a growing trend among America’s married couples that appears to be gaining ground as a result of a challenging economy and unsettled job market.

That trend is the commuter marriage. But what is it?

It’s basically a long distance relationship that exists to promote the financial gain of the married couple. In the typical commuter marriage, one spouse will rent an apartment in the city where they work, while the other runs things at home. Then, in order to maintain a connected marriage the commuting spouse flies back and forth while the non-commuting spouse makes special trips to visit.

It seems that ever since the recession hit, working-class people have been forced to broaden the geographic scope of their job search in order to maintain the lifestyle they want to live. In fact, according to the US Census Bureau, 3.5 million couples were part of commuter marriages last year. That’s up about 17 percent from 2001, when three million couple did it.

So rather than try to sell a home during a real estate downturn and relocate for work, it appears that more American couples have opted to invest their money in travel and living expenses as a means for strengthening their bottom line.

Brave Robot is the creation of Japanese designer Kenji Ishida. Kenji, who is working with a company named JS Robotics, looks to be on the verge of something really cool. The robot is remote controlled and can change into a car and back again into a robot with just the touch of a button.

This “toy” is no joke. It changes all by itself and does not need any help from us earthlings. This is the eighth version of the robot and it looks as though JS Robotics is now working on version nine.
