Facebook Grants a Father’s Rock and Roll Wish

As anyone with a Facebook account probably already knows, the social media giant is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and they’ve been honoring it by giving members “look back” videos that sum up their time on the service with a heartwarming series of pictures set to music.

For John Berlin of Missouri, Facebook’s birthday promotion represented a wonderful opportunity to see some of the most important moments from his son Jesse’s life — but because Jesse, who played guitar in a local band, passed away suddenly at the age of 21 in January of 2012, Berlin wasn’t able to gain access to the account. As Loudwire reports, Berlin took his quest to the public, creating a nationwide story that Facebook has just given a happy ending.

“I’m calling out to Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook,” Berlin said in his videotaped plea, which you can watch above. “You’ve been putting out these new movies, these one-minute movies that everyone’s been sharing. Well, my son passed away … and we can’t access his Facebook account. I’ve tried e-mailing, and different things, but it ain’t working. All we want to do is see his movie.” Responded a Facebook rep: “With the number of people using our service, it’s often very difficult to act on behalf of one. But John’s story and emotion moved us to take action — so we did.”

“The response is overwhelming,” wrote an appreciative Berlin on the video’s YouTube page. “We just wanted to see a 1 minute vid. We’re going to get that vid. FB contacted us and they’re going to work on that vid. I want to thank everyone, for your support. I didn’t know what to expect from this but it was worth a try. My son was 21 and died of natural causes, his autopsy came back undetermined. He is proof that there are no guarantees in life. Hug your children kiss them. Tell them you love them every single day. Again I thank every single one of you, even the dislikes. God Bless.”
