Let me start off by saying that I really do love my job. But guess what? That doesn’t mean that I want to work five days a week every week. Hence, I’m wondering the name of the d-bag who decided he’d have his employees work on a national holiday?

I know some of you have off today to “celebrate” Columbus Day. As you’ve probably already guessed, I do not. I just don’t understand why some companies choose to only acknowledge certain holidays.

When did the “Big Six” become the “Big Six”? When did we become so selective in which holidays we choose to recognize? I mean, I love America, so why can’t I observe its discovery? I also love veterans—especially when we live in a time of war—so why can’t I take a moment away to show my respect? Martin Luther King Jr., the Presidents, they deserve to have their days!

When did these holidays fall by the wayside? Who said these holidays aren’t as important? Why can’t we pay them their due respect?

If you need me today, I will be wallowing in self-pity, with my nose to the grind.
