Dave Grohl has assembled Sound City Players, an all-star group that will perform in support of his self-financed directorial debut, ‘Sound City,’ a documentary about the famed recording complex in California. The lineup of Sound City Players musicians is diverse, eclectic and impressive, and it includes his former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic, classic rocker John Fogerty, Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen and Stevie Nicks.

The cast that Grohl has assembled runs the rock gamut from classic to alt- to ’90s to punk. It also shows how much pull and respect he has an artist, as few could corral this much talent from this many genres and generations to play together.

The group will make its live debut on Jan. 18 at Park City Live, which is part of the Sundance Film Festival held in Utah every January.

According to Consequence of Sound, Grohl’s bandmates are: Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear of Nivana, with whom he reunited for a charity gig and an ‘SNL’ stint with Paul McCartney as frontman; Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters; Fogerty; Nicks; Alain Johannes; producer Chris Goss; Nielsen; Fear singer Lee Ving; Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk; and the Wallflowers’ keyboardist Rami Jaffee.

Wow, right?

Can’t wait for the clips of these performances to show up on YouTube!
