Last night's 4 point performance by Daniel Briere reminded Sabres fans just how much the team misses the former captain. Briere continues to be a symbol of everything that's wrong with the Tom Golisano era of the Buffalo Sabres, according to Buffalo News Columnist Bucky Gleason. The Sabres lost Danny Briere, Chris Drury and Brian Campbell after the 2005 season. It was a team that looked poised to compete for a Stanley Cup. Having lost Jay McKee and J.P. Dumont the season before and a ridiculous restricted free agent offer to Thomas Vanek, that handcuffed the team's payroll the team has been forced to pay for a long series of gaffes.

Here's hoping billionaire Terry Pegula stuck around to watch the Sabres-Flyers game after meeting with team officials as part of due diligence Tuesday. A purchase agreement is expected soon, perhaps even today. NHL sources said he's on track to assume ownership later this month or around the All-Star Game.
