The Black Crowes frontman will release his third Chris Robinson Brotherhood studio effort on April 29, with a tour to begin on the same day and continue through May.

Robinson collaborated on all but two songs for ‘Phosphorescent Harvest’ with Brotherhood guitarist Neal Casal. He wrote two others alone. They are again working with producer Thom Manahan. A sense of camaraderie comes through in the band’s emotionally available, often-free form music, Robinson says.

“The best perspective I have on what’s going on in my life – good and bad – is what comes out in the songs,” Robinson says. “As you move on in time, you get older, you have relationships. Some of them are good, some fail. … People come, people go. Songwriting is a completely different emotional response to your life and to what it means, to in some poetic nature, put it out there.”

Robinson has released two previous Brotherhood albums — ‘Big Moon Ritual’ and ‘The Magic Door,’ both in 2012 — in between tours with the Black Crowes, who appeared last summer with the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Both the Brotherhood and Tedeschi Trucks are set to appear in 2014 at the annual Mountain Jam Festival, co-founded by Warren Haynes.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood is rounded out by Adam MacDougall, George Sluppick and Mark Dutton. The group issued a special Black Friday Record Store Day quadruple vinyl live album last year, called ‘Betty’s S.F. Blends, Vol 1′ — testament to the more than 230 shows the group has put on since its founding in 2011.
