Can Rory McIlroy Win The Masters
21-year-old Irishman Rory McIlroy put in a workman like 70 to remain on top of the leaderboard at Augusta for the third straight day.
McIlory’s 12-under total score puts him four shots clear of K.C. Choi, Jason Day, Angel Cabrera and Charl Schwartlez, who are all tied for second place.
Cabrera, the 2009 Masters winner, and Schwartlez made the big movies of the day, shooting 67 and 68 respectively.
Saturday proved a tough day for Tiger Woods, whose 74 dropped him out of contention and into a ninth place tie at 4-under, and for Phil Mickelson, whose 71 leaves him 3-under par and with little chance of capturing his fourth green jacket.
If McIlroy stays on top Sunday, he would be the second youngest player to win the Masters, trailing only Tiger Woods, who was also 21 when he took the championship in 1997. Other golfers to win a Masters in their early twenties include all-time greats Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros, who both did it at 23.
