Buffalo WWII Veterans to Take Flight + See DC Memorial

Honor Flight Buffalo will begin their sixth year of flying World War II veterans to see their memorials in Washington DC on May 30th, 2015.

To date, all flights have escorted 26 World War II veterans per trip. Upon arrival vets will depart on two buses. The RED bus will be in memory of Ralph Wilson, Jr., founding owner of the Buffalo Bills and World War II Navy Veteran. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Wilson was awarded several service honors including the Navy Commendation Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. The BLUE bus is named for The Buffalo Sabres Foundation and the HITS Foundation and for their financial support over the past two years.

The World War II Memorial was dedicated in 2004 – nearly six decades after the war ended.

Honor Flight Buffalo's mission is to fly WWII Veteran’s free of charge to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifices. Honor Flight Buffalo has successfully escorted 418 World War II Veterans since its inception.

The public is invited to come out to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport on May 30th to welcome these heroes home.

Co-founders Lisa A. Wylie, President, Jo- Anne Wylie Vice-President as well as C. Daniel Dunkle realized the organization’s national office had greater than 200 World War II veterans in the Buffalo area on a waiting list ready to make this journey to see their memorial.

In 2009, Honor Flight Buffalo became an “official” Hub of the Honor Flight Network and formed in honor and in memory of the Wylie sister’s Dad ~ S/SGT Robert P. Wylie, U.S. Army Air Corps, World War II Veteran and Charter Member of the building of the World War Memorial who never had the privilege of seeing his Memorial. Honor Flight Buffalo is an all volunteer organization and supported by the Buffalo Community.
