In a season of bad news, the Buffalo Sabres came up with a morsel of good news on Monday with the announcement that they've agreed to terms with their 2017 first round draft pick.  Casey Mittelstadt agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract.  He  was selected by the Sabres in the first round, 8th overall.

The 6-foot-1, 201 pound Mittelstadt just recently completed his freshman season at the University of Minnesota where he scored 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 34 games for the Golden Gophers.  He also was named to the  Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Mittelstadt also was named tournament MVP during the IIHF World Junior Championships held in Buffalo in December.  He scored 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points leading the United States to a bronze medal.

There's a possibility he could be added to the Sabres lineup as soon as Thursday when the Sabres host the Detroit Red Wings.
