For the first time in 7 games the Buffalo Sabres lost a road game in regulation.  Saturday night's 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals was closer than the score would indicate, but until the Caps scored three times late in the third period the Sabres were in it.

The Sabres inability to cash in on scoring chances cost them again.  They had enough zone time and enough quality shots, but except for the goal by Sam Reinhart just 14 seconds into the third period they just couldn't score.  Kyle Okposo, Zemgus Girgensons and Evan Rodrigues each had four shots on goal, Nick Baptiste, Ryan O'Reilly, Benoit Pouliot and Reinhart each had three.

It's something that's plagued them all season.  They just fire too many blanks.

Alex Ovechkin scored twice for the Caps including their third period goal that gave the Caps a two-goal cushion again after Reinhart made it 2-1.

Robin Lehner stopped 31 shots in the loss.  The Sabres are right back at it again Sunday night against the Boston Bruins.
