Seems like this area has a unique connection with our fair feathered friends which is poultry.

Most people know the Buffalo chicken wing originated in 1964 at THE ANCHOR BAR when Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar. Late that evening a group of Dominic’s friends arrived at the bar hungry. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa, to prepare something for his friends to eat. Well, getting creative in the culinary sense, Teressa had deep fried the part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup "the wings" and flavored them with a secret sauce. The wings were an instant hit and the rest is history.

But what about a beverage to wash them down with? Like let's say a COCKTAIL.

Turns out the cocktail was invented in Lewiston circa 1779 when a tavern keeper by the name of Catherine "Kitty" Hustler served French troops libations with rooster tails in them to help stir the drinks, coining the term "Cocktail".

So there you have it. Poultry has played a significant part in our popular culinary culture.

The Bald Eagle represents America (although Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey)

The eastern bluebird represents New York State

But I say: "CHEERS TO THE CHICKENS AND HOORAY FOR THE ROOSTERS!"
