Buffalo Couple to Remarry After Being Divorced Nearly 50 Years
Roland Davis and Lena Henderson -- both 85 years old -- will remarry this Saturday after being divorced for nearly 50 years. The two remained friends after their divorce and according to their daughter, Renita, never had a disparaging word for one another after the break-up. So getting back together seemed like the natural thing to do, even though the rest of the family had no idea that they were exchanging phone calls last winter. So what if they haven't been together since Lyndon Johnson was president and the Beatles invaded America, the heart sometimes gets a second chance and what's meant to be is meant to be.
The marriage didn't work the first time because they married young, just 19 at the time, and even though they had been married for 20 years raising four children along the way, they decided things weren't working out. Davis remarried and moved to Colorado, but when his wife passed away a few months ago his oldest daughter urged him to move to Buffalo. Unbeknownst to the family the couple was already rekindling their relationship and when the opportunity to come to Buffalo arrived, that's when Davis decided to propose to Henderson.
"We were talking on the phone one day and he said, 'Will you marry me again? I said 'well, well... yes.'" Davis added, "You don't think people are going to get married at this age. We're just thankful we've lived this long and that we're still here. We have a lot to be thankful for."
The couple will be re-married at the at the Elim Christian Fellowship Center on Saturday.
