Leave it to the women to bring another championship to Buffalo!

The Buffalo Beauts have won the 2016-2017 Isobel Cup and are bringing the trophy back to Buffalo. The Beauts beat the Boston Pride 3-2 in the championship game on Sunday at the Tsongas Center in Massachusetts. It seems the MVP was goaltender Brianne McLaughlin who made 60 saves, 22 of them in the third period, to help hold onto the lead that was built in the first three periods. Goals for the Beauts were score by Megan Bozek, Emily Jangia and Corinne Buielo. Last year the Beauts lost to the Pride in the Inaugural Isobel Cup.

This is the second year for the NWHL and it was a turbulent start to season when it was announced that the NWHL would pay less than half of what was contractually negotiated to players. The players and the league were obviously able to come to some sort of agreement to allow the season to continue. However, the season was cut short due to the financial struggles. According to ESPNW, "the league ended its season a month early and reduced its Isobel Cup playoffs to single elimination." Through all of the distractions the Beauts were able to set aside and make it to the hoisting of the Isobel Cup!

Congratulations to the Buffalo Beauts! We look forward to next year's season!
