This is kind of scary to read and there's currently not a cure for this just yet. It's called the Powassan virus. You'll feel like you've caught the flu. The virus, which is found has been found in deer ticks that also carry Lyme disease, attacks your nervous system and causes brain swelling and long-term neurologic problems.

Other symptoms include:

  • fever
  • headache
  • vomiting
  • weakness
  • confusion
  • seizures
  • memory loss

According to the National CDC:

You can reduce your risk of being infected with POW virus by using tick repellents, wearing long sleeves and pants, avoiding bushy and wooded areas, and doing thorough tick checks after spending time outdoors.

If you think you've caught the virus immediately see your doctor.
