10 Beastie Boys Lyrics That Every Guy Should Live By
Adam “MCA” Yauch, a member of the influential and legendary New York rap group the Beastie Boys passed away today at the age of 47. MCA leaves behind not only a nation of hardcore fans, but a legacy of music that will love on for generations.
It’s always interesting to see the reaction of fans and followers when a celebrity passes away. If you’re unaware of the Beastie Boys’ reach and appeal, go check the Twitter trending topics right now. Putting condolences on social media is the new virtual “funeral guest book.” People from all over the world get to sign and say goodbye. Fans take to Twitter and Facebook to offer condolences as if the family of the deceased is reading every status update in the world at that moment.
“Oh look, Dana the admin assistant from Michigan, gives her best.”
I usually don’t jump on the “goodbye dead celeb” wagon, but maybe because celeb deaths don’t usually hit me that hard, if at all. MCA, and the Beasties, are a little different. My first cassette tape was ‘Licensed To Ill.’ A white kid that loved rap would naturally be attracted to three white guys rapping. I played it until it broke and bought a new copy. I think my mother hid the second copy, she found it offensive that people would “fight to party” and “only want girls to do the dishes.” So I borrowed a friend’s copy and taped it again. God bless dual cassette decks. For the last two years of high school, and until it was no longer my room, a Beastie Boys poster hung on the back of my door. I don’t know what happened to that poster but I’m going to assume it’s keeping my ‘Licensed To Ill’ tape company.
Back to Twitter, I wanted to offer my condolences but not come off as corny. I figured a Beastie Boys lyric would work well in this situation.
“Now MCA was with it, and he’s my ace, so I grabbed the piano player and I punched him in the face. #RIP”
It was retweeted, people commented, and it felt kind of therapeutic in a way. It also got me thinking about Beastie Boys lyrics and how, while they usually seemed jokey, nonsensical and often like gibberish, there was often some nuggets of advice woven into lines like “because you’re pud-slapping, ball-flapping – got that juice.”
So, in honor of MCA, and the legacy of the Beastie Boys and their music, here are 10 Beastie Boys’ lyrics that every guy should live by.
“Father to many – married to none
And in case you’re unaware I carry a gun” — The New Style
“Got limos, arena, TV shows
Autograph pictures and classy hos” — No Sleep Til’ Brooklyn
“Never been dumped ’cause I’m the most mackinest
Never been jumped ’cause I’m known the most packinest” — Shake Your Rump
“I’m gonna die gonna die one day
Cause I’m goin and goin and goin this way
Not like a roach or a piece of toast
I’m going out first class not going out coach” — Sounds of Science
“Everybody’s rapping like it’s a commercial
Actin’ like life is a big commercial
So this is what I’ve got to say to you all
Be true to yourself and you will never fall” — Pass The Mic
“Look into yourself and see what goes on
Get a feeling in your heart of the right from wrong” — The Update
“I want to say a little something that’s long overdue
The disrespect to women has got to be through
To all the mothers and sisters and the wives and friends
I want to offer my love and respect to the end” — Sure Shot
“Sometimes I feel as though I’ve been blessed
Because I’m doing what I want, so I never rest” — Root Down
“Got schemes schematics, blueprints on file
You gotta have dreams to make it all worthwhile” — The Move

Cause I’m about the best and if you diss than that’s wrong” — Make Some Noise
Rest in peace Adam.
