The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued yet another Winter Storm Warning for Tuesday evening through Thursday for portions of Western New York including Buffalo. There is also a Wind Chill Watch issued for Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Livingston, and Allegany counties from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon, with dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero possible.

Neither of these events should be taken lightly.  As a native Western New Yorker I always keep an Emergency Pack in my car, which includes:

  • Blankets
  • A cell phone charging cable
  • A First Aid Kit
  • Sustainable food items, granola bars, Beef jerky
  • Battery Jumper Cables
  • A fleece jacket
  • One day's worth of Rx medications

Having been stranded on the New York State Thruway I-190 for some 18 hours a number of years back I realize you cannot be too careful.

It is also recommended that you top off your gas tank regularly because no gas equals no HEAT. A little preparedness can go a long way.
