Side projects aren’t supposed to conflict with a musician’s main gig, but sometimes it does happen — just ask Chad Smith, the longtime Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer who also keeps the beat for the supergroup Chickenfoot.
The Chili Peppers and Chickenfoot have new studio albums coming out very soon. And with the likelihood that both bands will be on the road at the same time, Smith has called in a ringer to keep his ‘Foot stool warm: good buddy Kenny Aronoff.

Drummer Matt Sorum, of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver fame, has a new moniker to go along with his new band, Diamond Baby, which recently posted its first music video.
Sorum, who is calling himself Baron von Storm, now keeps the beat for Diamond Baby. The dance-pop quintet’s clip for ‘The Last Rockstar’ features cameos by Motorhead legend Lemmy Kilmister, actor Verne Troyer and actresses Jane Lynch and Juliette Lewis.

Pearl Jam opened its extensive video vaults for ‘Pearl Jam Twenty,’ and the band has done the same with its audio collection for the documentary’s soundtrack.
Not only will it contain 14 concert, TV and radio performances that are connected with the forthcoming film, the ‘Pearl Jam Twenty’ soundtrack also comes with a second disc of demos and other live recordings that covers PJ’s two decade history.

Jerry Leiber, Co-Writer of Songs for Elvis Presley and Other Legends, Dies
Lyricist Jerry Leiber, who with composer and longtime collaborator Mike Stoller wrote songs recorded by Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones and many others, died Monday in Los Angeles.
Leiber, 78, had been battling cardiopulmonary disease.
