‘The BFG’ Trailer: Mark Rylance Isn’t Like a Regular Giant, He’s a Cool Giant
Following its premiere at Cannes (where reactions were decidedly…mixed), Disney has unveiled a new trailer for The BFG, Steven Spielberg’s fantastical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book. Starring Spielberg’s new BFF Mark Rylance in the titular role, The BFG takes us to an enchanting but dangerous world filled with bone-crunching, gizzard-gulping giants. But don’t worry, the BFG of The BFG is a nice giant. Promise!
Patrick Stewart Confirms Professor X’s Return in ‘The Wolverine’ Sequel (Again)
We’ve known for quite some time that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is returning for The Wolverine sequel, though it hasn’t been made completely official. The actor himself hinted at the possibility last year, and when we asked Hugh Jackman about it directly, he would only confirm that there were “some ideas brewing.” By now, Professor X’s involvement is pretty much guaranteed, but in case you needed additional confirmation, Stewart has provided it.
Old Spider-Man Tobey Maguire Praises New Spider-Man Tom Holland With Hilarious Fan Video
Tom Holland has officially taken up the Spider-Man mantle for Marvel and Sony, but he’ll never replace Tobey Maguire in the deepest, web-covered corners of our hearts. Following his debut in Captain America: Civil War, the consensus among fans and critics alike is that Holland makes for a fantastic Spidey. You might even say he’s an…amazing…Spider-Man. And it looks like he has one very awesome fan in particular who knows a thing or two about web-slinging.
‘Inferno’ Trailer Teaser Puts the Whole World in Tom Hanks’ Hands
It may be Mother’s Day, but Sony doesn’t want your dad to feel left out. The studio has released a teaser for the first Inferno trailer, along with a couple of posters offering a sneak peek at the finale to The Da Vinci Code trilogy. And it looks like the series is prepared to go out with a bang, as Tom Hanks is literally holding the fate of the world in his hands.
Kevin Feige Says the Secret to ‘Deadpool’s Success Wasn’t in the R-Rating
To say that Deadpool was a hit because of its rating is a bit reductive, and honestly kind of insulting to the filmmakers, who managed to achieve something special by delivering an entertaining film based on a character whose only previous exposure to audiences left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths. Still, that R-rating drew a fair amount of attention, leading some to wonder if Marvel might take a similar risk. Disney’s Bob Iger previously said that fans shouldn’t count on an R-rated Marvel movie, and Kevin Feige echoes that sentiment while addressing the real reason why Deadpool was so successful.
SNL Revives Dana Carvey’s Church Lady to Judge Our Choices Accordingly
It’s been several years since Dana Carvey’s Church Lady graced us with her benevolent presence, but Church Chat finally returns to SNL — and not a moment too soon. With Donald Trump running for president (what a world) and pop culture run amok, we, as a nation, are truly in need of sage wisdom from Carvey’s shrewdly devout Church Lady.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Removed This Anakin Skywalker Easter Egg
It’s not uncommon for trailers to feature scenes that never make it to theaters, or for specific scenes to look slightly different than they did in early teasers, owing to changes in visual FX during production. Such is the case with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while some of the scenes featured in the trailers weren’t included in the theatrical version, those deleted scenes are included on the new Blu-ray release. But there was one thing from the initial trailers that wasn’t restored: a reference to George Lucas’ prequels.
Paramount Is Reportedly Already Planning ‘Star Trek 4’
The latest chapter of the current Star Trek saga doesn’t hit theaters until this summer, but it looks like Paramount is hedging their bets as the studio is already (reportedly) plotting the next installment in the franchise. Although fans don’t seem to be totally wowed by the trailers for Star Trek Beyond, it would appear that the studio is quite pleased with Justin Lin’s direction for the upcoming sequel — but with Lin attached to helm that new Space Jam movie (ugh, why), Paramount may need another director to take on Trek.
This Zack Snyder Interview From 2008 Proves That ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Is Just Another ‘Watchmen’
When something goes wrong, we often revisit and analyze the past to find warning signs that were previously overlooked. If you apply that logic to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel, for instance, then you could find yourself reading old interviews with Zack Snyder to try and figure out if maybe we knew all along that these were the kinds of superhero movies he was going to make..
New ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Set Photos Show Off the Millennium Falcon
Just a couple of days ago, director Rian Johnson shared two new photos from the set of Star Wars: Episode 8, one of which featured a Resistance X-Wing and a mysterious pilot. Today brings another sneak peek from the set, this time offering an unofficial look at a much bigger, much more notable spacecraft — you know, just in case you were concerned, for whatever reason, that the Millennium Falcon might be sitting this one out.
