SNL Ranked: Larry David Is Prett-ay, Prett-ay, Prett-ay Good
It’s kind of amazing that Larry David has never hosted SNL, and up until recently he had never really appeared on the show, either (save for a couple of tiny appearances back in the ’80s). David only managed to get one sketch on the show in the year he spent writing for SNL back in 1984–85, but now, after Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm and a couple of cold open cameos as Bernie Sanders, David finally has his chance to host. How did he do? Read on for our ranking of this week’s sketches from best to worst.
‘Gremlins 3’ Rejected Pitch Answers a Very Important Question About Mogwais
A new Gremlins film has been in development for several years, with a handful of different writers attached at various points. Last we heard, the new installment in the franchise will take a Jurassic World-style approach, essentially operating as a legacyquel that takes place 30 years later and maintains the canon from the previous films while introducing new characters. While we wait for more updates on Gremlins 3, two of the writers who previously developed ideas for the sequel have shared their rejected pitch, which basically sounds like Mogwais on a Plane.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Cast Can’t Get Their Act Together in Behind-the Scenes Photos
Over the last few days, James Gunn has been sharing some photos from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast rehearsals, featuring a very grumpy Michael Rooker and a cast of total screw-ups who have to learn a thing or two from Dave Bautista. We still have a while to wait before we see the cast back in costume as the unlikely group of heroes, but these rehearsal photos make that wait a little easier.
‘The Wolverine’ Sequel Will Reportedly Begin Shooting in April
Aside from Hugh Jackman’s “Old Man Logan” tipoff during last year’s Comic-Con, we don’t know much about The Wolverine 2. Director James Mangold is returning to the helm of the upcoming sequel, which doesn’t yet have a formal title, though it is expected to hit theaters in 2017. According to a new report, we may be learning a lot more about Jackman’s final outing as the iconic X-Men character as filming is set to begin this spring.
Wolverine Probably Won’t Be Recast in the ‘X-Men’ Universe When Hugh Jackman Leaves
Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine for over 15 years. He’s appeared on screen as the iconic X-Men character in seven films, including his uncredited cameo in X-Men: First Class, and by the time The Wolverine 2 rolls around, we can round that number up to eight (and that’s not including the potential for cameos in X-Men: Apocalypse, which he’s denied, as well as Gambit). Fans have been wondering if Wolverine will be recast once Jackman exits the franchise, but according to Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg, that’s not likely to happen.
Joseph Fiennes to Play Michael Jackson in Zany 9/11 Road Trip Comedy, Oh My God
Today in news that sounds like a series of escalating dares: Joseph Fiennes is set to play Michael Jackson in an original dramedy film for British network Sky Arts, which will tell the story of how Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando allegedly piled into a car to escape New York following the 9/11 terrorist attack. Yes, as in that Michael Jackson.
Legendary Actor Abe Vigoda, Star of ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Barney Miller,’ Dead at 94
Veteran actor Abe Vigoda has enjoyed a career more vast and varied than many of his fellow performers, with a resumé that spans 65 years and includes everything from masterpieces like The Godfather to classic television like Barney Miller. Vigoda has reportedly passed away today at the age of 94, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy of film and television work.
That ‘Labyrinth’ Remake Is Not Actually a Remake, Thank Goodness
We can all calm down because the sanctity of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth is not being disturbed as previously thought. Over the weekend, we learned that Sony had struck a deal with Jim Henson Co. for a Labyrinth reboot based on a screenplay by Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman. Perlman herself has now taken to social media to allay your fears and ensure you that no one is remaking your beloved Labyrinth and this news was all just a matter of poor timing.
New ‘Deadpool’ Clip Features a Rather Indecent Proposal
Following in the footsteps of Kingsman: The Secret Service, Deadpool is another wildly profane and gleefully violent film hitting theaters in February, hoping to attract a very similar audience. And as this new clip proves, the Merc With a Mouth’s solo outing has something else in common with Kingsman: a female lead who makes a joke about anal. Out of context, it’s hard to tell if this joke succeeds as planned, but this brief scene does show off some of the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin.
New ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Images and Details Reveal the Four Horsemen
As teased in the post-credits sting of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse is coming and he’s bringing his four horsemen — okay, not the four horsemen we saw in that teaser scene, but a new set of horsemen: Magneto, Psylocke, Storm and Angel. 20th Century Fox has revealed some new photos of the characters who will play accessory to Oscar Isaac’s titular baddie, while some additional details have emerged about their role in X-Men: Apocalypse.
