If you're looking for a dessert recipe, you've come to the wrong place. A turk-cake is not one of those (sorta creepy) turkey-shaped cakes you bring out at the end of a Thanksgiving meal. A turk-cake is the Thanksgiving meal!
Looking at the bottom half of the above postcard, can you tell what the old Greyhound Bus Terminal is today, in 2012? And, no, the answer is not "a pile of rubble" -- this puppy (ha, I'm punny!) is still (mostly) standing.
Here's a hint: This bus terminal was located a few blocks away from the current bus station on Ellicott Street, on Main Street.
Give up?
The Coalition to Save Thanksgiving has a crackpot design team behind the scenes. These bad boys went up all over town today, so be sure to give us a call if you see one!
Every day as I walk to and from my car, I pass the Buffalo Public Library's Central Branch, which is just across Lafayette Square from our dumpy little studio. It's clear from the old photo of the Square above that a very pretty, old building used to be where the library stands now -- but what was it?
This morning (November 8), Taste of Home Cooking School Culinary Specialist Michael Barna set up residence in the 'Winging It!' kitchen to prepare his recipe for Mexican Shrimp Bisque.
A few years ago -- 2008, to be exact -- Green Day released an album under the name Foxboro Hot Tubs. 'Stop Drop and Roll!!!' was some mighty fine '60s rock -- at least, as fine as one would expect from a West Coast '90s punk band.
It's baaaaack!
The Coalition to Save Thanksgiving is all about raising awareness while having fun. The best way we can think of to do that? Hand turkeys!
Buffalo has the unfortunately designation of being the place where President William McKinley was assassinated (among other unfortunate designations we've received over the years). Fortunately, that misfortune (are you confused yet?) contributed a very recognizable landmark to our city.
A day off for most Buffalo schoolchildren due to Hurricane Sandy couldn't have come at a better time. With most local schools closed today (October 30), those looking for a way to fill the day found the perfect activity: indoor trick-or-treating at Galleria of Treats at the Walden Galleria.
Hurricane Sandy is expected to hit the East Coast this afternoon (October 29), bringing heaving winds and rain to Buffalo tonight. Obviously staying safe in the storm should be your first priority, but if you're a little curious to see what Sandy's doing to Western New York, we've found a way for you to do so from home.
The abundance of costumed folks at the Hyatt on Friday night (October 26) weren't celebrating Halloween -- although they would have fit right in with the rest of the holiday revelers. Rather, the disco dresses, bell bottoms and afros were all for our Retro Disco Dance Party.
Although it's hard to think about looking outside your window at today's gorgeous sunshine, we're used to bad weather around this time of year in Buffalo. The winter brings snow, ice and generally bad conditions, sometimes as early as October. We also get our fair share of wind and rain from East Coast tropical storms.
But both together? It could happen next week.
