With all the hoopla surrounding Van Halen‘s first album with David Lee Roth in over 20 years, our friends over at the Van Halen News Desk have dipped into the vaults and dragged out 15 photos of the young, hell-raising band making a visit to a record store — remember those?! — while on their first world tour in 1978.
Metallica are offering up what can be considered a sonic Christmas gift for fans. A studio version of the previously unheard song ‘Hate Train’ from the ‘Death Magnetic’ sessions has popped up online, at the same time the band played it at the first of their recent 30th anniversary shows.
Chickenfoot drummer Chad Smith wasn’t able to head out with the band for its fall “Road Test” tour due to his commitments to his “other” band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so Kenny Aronoff manned the kit in his absence. The ‘Foot did test runs of material from the recently released album ‘III’ and Smith was there in spirit. He kept in touch with his mates the entire time and may have even watched some footage from the shows on YouTube.
Scientists working at Boston’s Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with the funding help of hometown hero and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, are working on a special, almost magical gel that replicates the activity of a human vocal cord. It will be able to help the damaged voices of singers and, more importantly, cancer patients! The Who vocalist Roger Daltrey is also partly funding the endeavor.
The Scorpions announced in 2010 that they would release ‘Sting in the Tail’ as their final album and then head off into the sunset with a farewell tour before retiring from active duty as rockers. But much like many rockers who release “goodbye” albums and embark on sayonara tours, the Scorps were not done stinging, so to speak.
